Ultimately, along with a tailored cover letter, a customized résumé, and a sincere Thank You email, it contributed to winning a position in a highly competitive contest among 360 MBA students for one of two summer positions.

Hi Martin-- I want to thank you once again for the guidance you provided me last term regarding brand management and Nestlé. I have learned a great deal from different company presentations, from certain Wall Street Journal features, and from a few other sources. I am very excited about interviewing with Nestlé next Wednesday. Would you be open for a quick phone call later this week? I am not sure if you are able to talk about it at all, but I was curious about your insights into the Nestlé/Purina announcement. Thank you again for the help you have provided me. The above customized pre-interview letter was used in combination with a customized cover letter, a résumé tailored specifically for this opportunity and followed by a successfully written 'Thank You' email. Together with a good interview, these documents won the desired position.
