The difference between Proofreading Only service and Editing/Re-writing service is the following:

Proofreading Only service makes strictly _mechanical_ corrections. This service operates exclusively at a 'micro' level of detail. A senior proofreader methodically goes through the sentences and paragraphs to look for and correct mechanical errors only: spelling, capitalization, blatant grammatical mistakes, references to page numbers (or tables or figures) that are incorrectly numbered, mismatches between table of contents references and actual page numbers, mismatches between headings and what's in the paragraph itself. Proofreading is strictly mechanical, a step beyond what can be done in Microsoft Word using grammar check and spell-check, with an extra _human_ involvement that Word often doesn't catch.

Editing and Re-writing service goes deeper than proofreading; it offers feedback/logic to our clients that Proofreading Only does _not_ include such as, "This argument may not be very persuasive to some members of your audience... Do you have any research to back this point up?" and "It would seem more effective to move this paragraph to the end of the argument and cut out the last two sentences," and "If we include the phrase 'treatment of homelessness' in this context, it is advised that we define 'homelessness' shortly after the first mention on Page 3," and "We should define the acronym RAPID upon first mention on page 7." With our Editing and Re-writing service, we raise and solve (with you) each of these issues. Proofreading is just the mechanics: a less comprehensive service than Editing/Re-writing.
